All Kids and Critters

All Kids & Critters, Inc.

A Nonprofit Corporation Dedicated to the Needs of Children

Michelle and David Devita established All Kids and Critters, Inc. because of a strong desire to provide positive after school and day camp experiences for all children, regardless of family income level, thereby strengthening their socialization and creativity skills and increasing their chances of pursuing healthier life choices.

In August of 2005, acting on their dedication to children, Michelle and David informed Big Brothers, Big Sisters, United way and Manzanita Family Center Homeless Shelter that All Kids and Critters, Inc. would be donating two weeks of summer day camp to children whose families were unable to afford it on their own. The tremendous volume of responses prompted them to seek nonprofit status, which has enabled them to continue to serve the community’s great need for children’s day camp experiences.

Today, the programs and activities at All Kids and Critters, Inc. are still open to the general public. A fee is charged to families who can afford it, with sliding scale and subsidized tuition available to families who qualify. Scholarships are given to children living in homeless shelters and donated camp sponsorships help children from families who would not otherwise be able to afford the cost.

Riding lessons, horsemanship programs, organic gardening, after school enrichment classes, agricultural and animal interaction, care and education are among the activities offered. During a variety of riding experiences and daily mounted lessons with safe, experienced horses and instructors, campers are taught proper safety, horse grooming, tacking and riding skills. Small group sizes allow the instructors to provide personal attention to the campers. Also, transportation services are available to and from school, to after school activities and to medical and dental appointments.

Coming in June are fun and exciting summer day camps. Full-day and half-day camps are available for children ages 7 through13. There are three great programs to choose from! 1) Ceramic Camp - develops hand building techniques, basic mold making & glazing methods, while developing one’s individual approach to creativity with clay. 2) Horsemanship Camp - is designed for the beginning to intermediate rider, and provides fun experiences in horseback riding, development of horsemanship skills, playing games and more. 3) Variety Camp - includes a multitude of activities; bowling, juggling, gymnastics, miniature golf, swimming, arts & crafts, tie-dye, a petting zoo & more.

All Kids and Critters, Inc. is an approved, licensed subsidized day care provider. In order to continue to make their mission possible, year-round fund raising efforts are made to secure donations, sponsorships, and grants to provide enrollment spaces for children from families of Nevada County.
