The Alternative Fitness Center has been offering affordable Pilates classes since 1996. Pilates is a non-impact form of whole body toning that builds strength and flexibility from within, incorporates precise breathing and works for people of any age or physical condition. The small, closely supervised classes emphasize proper training on the Reformer machine followed by mat exercises for as little as $12 per session. Classes are taught by Caroll Christy who studied for 10 years under a protégé of Joseph Pilates. The Alternative Fitness Center was voted the Best Pilates Studio by the Union readers in 2006.
